We went to Kensington Palace and had a workshop about Victorian toys. The children opened a mystery chest and looked at the clothes they would have worn and the toys they would have had and learned about Queen Victoria and her childhood. They then made their own Victorian toy – a birdcage thaumatrope. It was really fun and they enjoyed it a lot. It was part of our houses and homes Explore and Discover module.
Why not make your own Thaumotrope at home? Here is a link to BBC History Victorian Games, on how to make one!
