As part of our R.E, Literacy and Explore and Discover learning we visited St Paul’s Cathedral and Trafalgar Square last week. We took the 11 bus to get there and took in the sights whilst playing a game of London ‘I spy’ in our sketch books. We enjoyed drawing what we could see along the way! Especially Elizabeth Tower and Big Ben. It was great to see the horse-guards standing guard outside Horseguard’s Parade too.
When we arrived at St Paul’s we were so excited, we had learnt a poem about the cathedral during ‘International Week’ and we finally got to see the ‘beautiful dome and spire glittering like gold’. We walked around the outside and did some sketching and then went into the building. We walked around and talked about what we could see and even got to meet one of the priests. He said a prayer for Marlborough Primary School and told us about what happens in the cathedral.
After that, we set off towards Trafalgar Square. We had read ‘Katie comes to London’ during International week and we really enjoyed seeing the huge lions that had come to life in the book. We sketched Nelson’s monument and the lions and even got to look at a giant lego ship! After all that excitement it was time to head back to school. However, while we were waiting for the bus we got to see Princess Anne drive past. What an exciting day we had!
